FAN’s Creative Arts Therapists Cody and Emily presenting “Strengthening Inclusive Practice: LGBTQIA+ Young People and Family Violence” session to FVREE
With support from Family Safety Victoria, FAN’s Creative Arts Therapists, Cody and Emily, have developed and are currently delivering free one-hour training sessions aimed at strengthening inclusive practice when working with LGBTQIA+ young people impacted by family violence.
The “Strengthening Inclusive Practice: LGBTQIA+ Young People and Family Violence” session focuses on the lived experiences of queer communities, particularly youth navigating family violence. It explores the unique dynamics of these experiences, including the barriers that often prevent access to safety and support.
Presented to organisations such as Sexual Health Victoria, Mackillop Family Services, Launch Housing, and recently FVREE, this training offers teams working with young people a valuable opportunity to reflect meaningfully on their practice. Participants gain insights into key data on LGBTQIA+ family violence, explore drivers, barriers, biases, and intersectional considerations, and receive practical strategies to create safer, more inclusive spaces in their work.
If your organisations would like to take advantage of this free and invaluable training, and strengthen your team’s understanding and support for LGBTQIA+ young people experiencing family violence, contact Cody CFisher@fan.org.au or Emily EYates@fan.org.au to book a session.
